Kivatch climatic balneary health resort was opened in 1973. Its location is outstanding – as back as 1719, Peter the Great founded the first Russian spa on the right shore of Lake Pertozero, one of the purest lakes in the Northwest Russia, in the area of ferriferous mineral water springs.
At the moment, children and adults with digestion, kidney and urinary tracts pathologies, anaemia, musculoskeletal diseases are treated successfully in the health resort.
The area of the health resort is 23 ha. This is a forest dominated by conifers. A low level of isolation, good ecological environment, highly ionised air of pine forests, softening impact of warm air masses of the North Atlantic create a unique microclimate of the health resort.
The staff of the health resort amounts to 268 persons, of whom 20 are doctors, 30 are teachers and educators, and 67 are nurses. Every month the health resort hosts 400 clients. The health resort encompasses: 4 buildings for children, 4 buildings for adults, health resort’s policlinic, a school, a club, a swimming pool, a gym, a dancing floor, an Orthodox church. The health resort receives patients – children, adults, families – from all regions of Russia and abroad.
Kivatch climatic balneary health resort is a favourite place of recreation and recovery with many eminent Karelian and Russian politicians, actors, businessmen and scientists.
The main approach in the treatment comes down to nature therapeutic interventions: natural factors (air, water, herbs, moving, etc.) that fulfil the precept of Hippocratis “The task of a doctor is not to treat patients but to make the nature of patients defeat a disease”, i.e. rather launching of self-regulation and recovery mechanisms than reducing symptoms of a disease with the help of symptomatic therapy. Natural resort factors are represented by unique “Martial Waters” (four mineral water springs) and mud (ferriferous sulphide sapropel).
The Martial waters better the secretory and motor function of the gastrointestinal tract, possess choleretic and bacteriostatic action, improve the excretory function of the kidneys, increase haemoglobin in blood, contribute to general strengthening of health and are used to treat diseases of the digestive organs, cardio-vascular diseases, some blood diseases and methabolism diseases. The Gabozero mud is distinguished by pain-killing, spasmolytic and immuno-correctional action and produces a marked curative effect to many diseases.
The health resort’s experts practice water and mud treatment, thermal treatment, phototherapy, colourtreatment, aromatherapy, movement therapy, massage, reflexotherapy, treatment with herbs and dieting, preformatted natural factors (instrument physiotherapy), dentist’s and ENT services, beauty parlour’s services.
In 1996, a department of endo-ecological rehabilitation aimed at organism cleaning was opened. The health resort designed and is successfully implementing its own technology of cellular-level endo-ecological rehabilitation, which includes withdrawal of toxins from the intercellular space and stimulation of elimination organs: bowels, liver, lungs, kidneys, and skin. The treatment course is estimated for 6 through 13 days. The method was hghly appreciated at the 1st International Endoecology Competition in Buenos Aires and at the 2nd Competition in 2002 in Greece.
Resulting from the basic course of endo-ecological rehabilitation, two-week special programmes for osteochondrosis cases, small pelvis cases, bronchial asthma cases, ulcer cases, ENT cases, a figure correction and body aesthetics programme and an anti-parasite course were developed. Beauty shop’s services are well organised.
In the health resort, a super-effective method of medicine injection into the lymphatic system was realised to allow a high concentration of a medicine, depositing and active shift of a medicine to the inflammation focus. This method resolves a lot of problems: lessening of medicine’s dosage, shortening of a therapy course, reduction of toxicity, allergenicity and negative impact on the immunity. The lymphotropic treatment is 3-4 times more effective than traditional methods of medication injection.
In 2002, Kivatch health resort opened a consulting division in its Petrozavodsk office. The division deals with post-hospital care, and qualified nurses provide care to severe cases at home.
In 2003, a new division was established – a division of psychophysical rehabilitation aimed at patients who had or have grief, suffering from chronic stress, and at patients having problems of the nervous system.
